Consultation Document

Development Contributions Policy Consultation

Designing documents like this is one of my favourite parts of my job. This particular document allowed me to put a new spin on Wairoa District Council's publications.

The Brief

Wairoa District Council regularly seeks input from its community on a variety of subjects. Having worked on numerous consultation documents for the council in the past I was asked to design this brief document as part of yet another consultation, this time for a new policy: the Development Contributions Policy.

A Uniek Solution

This new topic allowed me to explore a different creative direction compared to previous council documents. I decided to continue the same style for all content but added a style of graphics that was different to existing council publications. Larger visual elements assist in conveying key information, they cross columns and even pages. But the focal point is the cover, beautifully displaying Wairoa's iconic Portland Island lighthouse located along the Wairoa river.

Any (formal) document should convey important information in a concise and professional manner but it may also look attractive and it should be a joy to pick up and flick through. That's precisely what we achieved with this document. The striking cover grabs your attention and the inside guides you through the key information.

For production of this document I chose a high quality matt-finish paper that looks and feels outstanding, while still being practical. I was asked to insert a submission form towards to end of the document so I had to ensure people could write in the booklet without any ink getting smudged.
